Photo Editor Favourites

Photo Editor Favourites

Today I am going to do a quick and informal walk through of some of my favourite photo apps, all of which are free to download and use, except from Facetune which I purchased for £2.99 back in 2015.

YouCam Perfect

There are a multitude of things you can do with this app, from beautifying options such as standard effects, which you can see an example of in the 3rd picture, to reshaping your face if you wish. You can edit your eyebrows, eyelashes, under eye darkness, blemishes, skin tone.. There are many different options if you wish to go crazy. Then there are your editing options, my favourite and most used being the removal brush, I normally use this to remove small bits of a photo to make it more appealing, for example, a photo of a white wall, I can remove areas where the paint has chipped, a garden photo I can remove visible weeds etc. It just allows the focus of the picture, whatever that may be, not to be distracted from. I showed an example of this with the 4th picture above where the pendent part of my necklace is now missing, the effect works very well in my opinion; especially for a free app.

I think most people know of Facetune, I especially like the filters; Azure, Zaffre and Pastel 1. Otherwise I mainly use this app for it’s whitening tool, in the above picture I have whitening the pots, granted not the best photo to show the tool, but anything white that you wish to be more dazzling this is the tool to use. You can also use it on colours, however it fades them rather than brightening like it does with white.

Any photo grids I want to create I do in this app, I am aware there are many different options out there for doing this but this is what I have been using longest and find quickest and easiest.

Photo Wonder

Along with all the generic editing options, there are plenty of beauty ones too, from slimming your face, enlarging your eyes, enlarging your breasts, whitening your teeth, which is the above example I’ve shown. This is suitable for more drastic personal photo alterations, but there are some good effects available, and I do sometimes whiten my teeth, I always attempt to keep them quite natural looking (in the above picture I’ve done it further than I prefer so the difference is hopefully visible).

Similar options to YouCam Perfect, however some of the tools look more natural on one or the other. You can switch between using the set looks they offer which, in my experience at least, never looks natural, or using the individual tools; my favourite is the brightening of eye circles, which is the above example I’ve shown, hopefully you can see the difference between the 2nd and 3rd photo.

Snapseed words great whether editing photos of faces, landscapes or items. I especially love the saturation tool, which you can see an example of in the 2nd and 3rd photo how I have saturated the colour of my jumper, this comes in very useful when a photo hasn’t picked up the true colour of something. And the tool where you can change the perception of a photo, as shown in the last two photos. I like to use this to ever so slightly alter the angle of a flatlay photo, so even if you didn’t take the photo from the perfect above and centered position, you can make it look like you did.

This app I found quite difficult to figure out, it is best just to choose a few photos and mess about until you find which tools you like best. There are so many options available within this app, and I am still getting a grasp on them myself. Above I’ve shown an example of the tint tool.

I hope this has been helpful, I am aware it is not as useful a post as someone might write, who actually understand all the different elements of photo editing. My limited knowledge comes from trial and error and now knowing my personal preferences.

What photo editing apps do you use? Any suggestions for me add to my growing collection?
