DIY: Marble Tumblers

DIY: Marble Tumblers

Whilst on my recent trip to The Range, in search for a frame for my last DIY post, I found these tumblers in the bathroom accessories section (one of which is no-longer available online) and decided I was going to give this whole water marbling a go.

What you will need:

  • Tumbler / Tea Cup / Glass etc
  • Nail Polish
  • Container (that you don’t mind getting a bit ruined)
  • Warm Water
  • Skewer of some type (I used a toothpick)

Additional Extra:

  • Dishwasher Safe Mod Podge (if you want it to be dishwasher safe, otherwise it should be fine as is for hand washing)

How to:

  • Fill your container with warm water.
  • Drip your nail polish into the water.
  • Gently mix it with your skewer.

Tip: Work quite quickly as the polish will start to set and clump together (any bits that do clump just remove with the skewer).

  • Dip your tumbler in and turn to cover all the areas that you want with the polish.

Tip: Before removing you could gently separate the polish that isn’t directly attached to the tumbler away for a cleaner finish.

  • Remove and allow to dry for a few hours.
  • If you do want it to be dishwasher safe paint the Mod Podge on, using a few layers.

Tip: I’d advice testing on disposable plastic cups beforehand (I did not – which is why I have so many tumblers when I originally only started out with only 3). It’ll help you get the method down better.

I also picked up a glass bulb container to try marbling that.

[The nail polish I used were Rimmel 60 Second Go Wild-er-ness, Hot Metal Love, My Grey, Roll In The GrassPort-a-loo-blue, Funtime Fuschia and Perfect Plum. Essie Gala-vanting and Collection Hola Hoop.]
