The Strange Things I Google #1

The Strange Things I Google

Google is wonderful, whatever did we do before it? Want to find out why yawns are contagious? Google it. Want to know how to make a classic Victoria sponge cake? Google it. Want to find out if you’re a Werewolf? Google it.. or seek out some psychological help..?

Today’s post comes to you courtesy of my own strange Google searches, I mean, I don’t think I’m a Werewolf but I often find myself Googling the answers to random questions. So here are some of the strange things I Google.

Interesting Google Searches

Did you know certain parrots can live for over a 100 years! If you get one you’d need to put it in your Will, because even with the best of genes that bird is going to outlive you. Even the lifespan of the average parrot is around 50 years!

Strange Things People Search On Google

My most random Google searches usually come whilst I’m out walking my dogs. It must be the absence of a mental occupation that allows my mind to wander to strange places. Despite it officially being Spring now, it is still cold and miserable in Britain, but the silver lining to that – I now know why we get a runny nose in cold temperatures.

“Our noses warm and humidify the air we breathe as it travels down into the lungs. So when you inhale cold, dry air, the moist tissue inside the nose automatically increases fluid production to do its job of protecting sensitive lung tissue.”

“Your nose works overtime to make sure the air you inhale is suitable for your sensitive lung tissue. Air that’s cold also tends to be very dry, so in order to humidify it, the nose ups its fluid production. This often leads to excess mucus, which ends up on your face instead of inside your nostrils.”

.. that’s right, I just used the term “excess mucus” on my beauty blog, I spoil you guys.

Weird Google Searches

In my opinion it was Miranda, but it’s always interesting to hear other peoples theories even if they are obviously incorrect. Most people agreed it was Miranda too, who do you think it was? Carrie definitely went to different girls for different issues but to me it always seemed like Miranda was her main go to and the person she felt closest to.

The Strange Things I Google

I wondered whether there was an actual science behind why people did this? Did it help prevent excess pain after punching? After all, cracking your knuckles releases air stored in the joints so does that help somehow? Or did it originate purely as a show of dominance?

Sadly, I couldn’t find a definitive answer to this. Some people said its a way of dispersing nervous tension, others believe it increases finger dexterity. And then a lot just said it’s simply a way of intimidating your opponent, originated from films. What do you think?

The Strange Things I Google

All at once I seemed to be watching a lot of TV shows and movies where there would be a random joke about the poor dental hygiene of the British people. The characters making the jokes were always American as well. If you are American can you explain why this is a thing?

FYI, as a qualified Dental Nurse I can inform you that the dental hygiene of our teeth is perfectly fine as an average. Strange, I’m not partially patriotic but when writing this up I found myself getting offended and feeling the need to defend the British people.

That’s it for this post of strange things I Google, but give me a bit of time and I’m sure I’ll have some more peculiar searches in a couple of weeks.

What stuff have you found yourself Googling that is a bit on the random side?

Omg I’ve googled so many weird things too, anything and everything lol. The runny nose was kind of interesting I never knew that. Learning something new everyday lol.
As for the British having bad dental hygiene, I’ve always wondered about that too. There’s plenty of Americans who have teeth that look way worse than British people, just saying. Lol

Lol, thank you! I felt so strangely defensive about the insult 🙈 maybe it’s an old joke that still gets used.

Maybe it is but it’s overused by now lol

This is so amusing! I always find myself Googling the strangest things too, but hey, that’s what it’s there for. Why keep wondering when Google can answer it? Also, I have to say as an American, I’ve never really heard those cracks about the British people having bad teeth. Maybe I just haven’t noticed them, but either way, it’s new to me!

😊 glad you enjoyed it. Oh good, just seemed that every film and episode I was watching has a joke in it about the British dental hygiene, maybe it was just a coincidence 😊
