Monthly Memories – May

Monthly Memories

On the 30th of last month myself, Oscar, Mia, Rebecca, Max and Emily all drove over to Keldy Forest to our log cabin to start our holiday. The location was really in the middle of nowhere. It was a good 10 – 15 minute drive behind fields and dirt roads before we reached Keldy Forest. They had no phone signal and very limited lighting to prevent light pollution. The signal got a bit annoying and the darkness could be a bit scary whilst walking two dogs alone, but all in all it was good fun.

Unfortunately that first night I realised that my bed sheets hadn’t been changed, there were pubic hairs and bogies on them… so yeah – not great. I will say that the on site help came and changed the bedding and were horrified. They also gave us a free curry night and late checkout. So whilst it was awful that the bedding wasn’t changed, they did step up and fix it. Top tip though, always check bedding and general cleanliness as soon as you arrive to any holiday location!

That first day and evening we didn’t do much. The kids and dogs needed to stretch their legs but otherwise we were all tired and ready to relax.

On our first full day we got in the car and drove an hour firstly in the wrong direction, and another hour in the right direction before reaching Scarborough.

How beautifully moody are these photos? Whenever I see beach pictures like this I think of the film Deep Impact where the Father and Daughter stand on the beach as that massive wave comes hurdling towards them. FYI, I cry like a baby whenever I watch that scene.

After driving back to the cabins we went out to explore a bit of the land. Keldy Forest is located in the centre of miles and miles of forests and woodlands. Depending on what you can manage there are different walks you can take, varying in length and ease of walk. We didn’t explore too far as we had already been out in Scarborough but it was beautiful.

After getting back to the cabin we tried the hot tub out for the first time. I personally prefer my hot tubs to be, well, hot. But these were just warm, lovely still, but more like a warm bath. Which is why we let the kids have a little play in them as the temperature was nothing more than what they’d have in their baths at home. Obviously if it is a hot hot tub then children are not safe to go in as they can’t regulate their body temperature the way adults can.

They both loved it though, Emily spent the whole time ‘swimming’ from one side to another, which wasn’t very relaxing for me, but her joy semi made up for that. 😉

On the Wednesday it was supposed to rain all day so we lay low. We did go on a muddy walk though which was nice.

In the afternoon I filmed my Snack Exchange with the kids. Look at the sibling love in the below picture.

On our last full day we drove over to Whitby. Driving in these areas was so amazing yet annoying because the views were beautiful but being the driver you couldn’t get to fully enjoy them. If you ever are over this way, elect someone else to drive.

After 4 days of a lot of driving, a lot of kiddie conversations and many hours of being awake when he normally would have been napping, Oscar was really feeling the bed that night.

The next day was spent driving the 2 hours home. By this point I think we were all sick of the car, the dogs especially.

The first day that we were away I bought the dogs some Pawsecco but didn’t get round to giving it them until we were back home that evening. Oscar wasn’t that into it, but Mia – well, if it was an alcoholic drink then she’d be the type to develop a problem.

A couple of days after getting home it was Emily’s birthday. This little character is now three years old. And Max is nearly five! He’s starting Primary School in September. Madness.

The rest of the month was quiet, at least in terms of what I would talk about on my blog, so here are some cute pictures instead.

Firstly, look at Oscar and Mia sleeping together, I know lots of dogs intertwine they are so close but this is real improvement for these two. Considering how they started out, seeing them sleep like this makes my heart swell. And then Oscar sleeping on a teddy.. I mean, c’mon!

Look at how Mia falls asleep on me.. how does she do it? Also, I had been crying. I believe I had been watching Sense and Sensibility on the telly and it set me off, it doesn’t take much to make me cry anyways.

The end of this month was pretty stressful, which you’ll already know if you follow me on Instagram. After being forced into a Windows update my laptop deleted everything! So that was fun.

Luckily the majority of my photos and video are backed up to an external hard drive but I still lost a lot of stuff. As of right now I’m not sure whether any of it is recoverable but fingers crossed.

Because of this, and because I was due a new laptop, I had to buy another. Which is what I am writing this post on right now. So blogging is back on, but my stress levels are still pretty high.

Side note, I hate new technology. I hate setting it up and being panicky about not damaging it. It’s like a pair of perfectly white shoes, you don’t want to get them marked or dirty but once you do you feel calm again. I’m essentially waiting for the first accidental drop, which considering how clumsy I am, shouldn’t take too long.

How was your May? What has been your favourite memory looking back on the month? And what are you looking forward to in June?

I was born in Scarborough! My Grandparents lived there until they died so we spent every school holiday there as kids, always makes me feel nostalgic seeing pictures! I haven’t been in years, think I might have to organise a little road trip! Your doggies look so cosy in the car!

Thank you Mia 🙂 I’ve only ever been to Llandudno in Wales, but I’d love to explore it more, and Scotland.. and Ireland 😉
🙂 Thank you! I’m glad they amuse someone other than myself — I find myself hilarious, which is most important 😉

Gosh your dogs are so cute!!! All of these photos are beautiful. It looks like such a relaxing & fun getaway!

So sorry about you losing so much from your laptop! That’s the worst when you are forced into updates. Glad to hear you’re back to blogging though. 🙂
