Monthly Memories – October

Monthly Memories – October

I’m back today with my October Monthly Memories. I actually love writing these posts up as they make me remember and sometimes realise how much I’ve enjoyed a month. I actually did a fair few activities this month which always boasts my mood.

This month was the 1 year gottcha anniversary of adopting Mia. In my Instagram post I mentioned a few of the ways in which she’s grown more confident in this past year; but here are a few more.

One year ago today I went to visit a little 6 year old Chihuahua called Mia (who incidentally I thought you pronounced as Maya, which took my brain an awful lot of work to revert that back to Mia – I'd have to sing "Mamma Mia" each time I said her name.. no, I'm not joking). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The visit was supposed to be just that, a visit. We were going to see how her and Oscar interacted, how she seemed to response to us etc. And after spending about half an hour with her, in which time she barked and growled at Oscar, and barked at and avoided us, we logically decided to bring her home for a trial period.. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ In that trial period we had to teach her how to walk on a lead. We had to teach her not to be terrified of every little thing; be it clothes hangers (which she's still not overtly fond of but tolerates) or spoons. We had to teach her that we weren't trying to drown her in 5cm of water when washing her feet (although watching her air 'swim' was amusing). We had to teach her that just because we sometimes speak above a normal decibel does not mean we're angry. She also had to learn to stop running away when I sing.. which I won't lie, hurt my feelings quite a bit.. – Actually she'd run when I'd laugh, or cough too.. basically anything that happens suddenly used to send her running from the room, but not before leaving behind a very pungent odor 💨 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Well that day or two trial period never ended, and just like that, this little weirdo had wriggled her way into my heart, home and family. And now #herforeverhomeiswithme ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I had honestly worried I wouldn't be able to love another dog the way I do Oscar, and whilst it's true, he will always be my first baby, my first dog, Mia has well and truly blown those worries to smithereens. So happy gotcha day to my perfect little sausage 💜

  • She will now argue back, giving indignant barks if she disagrees with what she’s being told to do. For instance, going on walks in the rain.
  • She lets me hold her legs, which is basically the equivalent of holding hands with someone. For the first 6 months or so she wouldn’t even let us touch her legs, now she’ll fall asleep with me holding them. To be fair, I understood that fear, her legs are so tiny and fragile you could very easily break them and obviously she knows that too.
  • Her and Oscar will now sleep in the same room, and pretty close together. I don’t think they’ll ever be the types of dogs to curl up and snuggle but considering that they used to refuse to sleep in the same room together, I think the below picture is a great example of how far they have come. In fact a lot of the time the actually seek each other out to nap in the same room. They’ve become a little dog pack of their own.

Later in the month I took a trip to Cockfields Farm for their pumpkin festivities. Unfortunately because of the way they advertised it on their site there was a misunderstanding and that festival hadn’t actually started yet. Because of this we got to go back later in the month for a major discount, which was really nice and greatly appreciated.

We still had fun on that first trip though.

My nephew Max is very much like my sister in the sense he’s a bit of a scaredy-cat when it comes to animals or insects. Emily on the other hand, is just like me and is always more than happy to jump at the chance to interact with any animal. There were three snakes that the workers at Cockfields Farm brought out and Emily wasn’t happy with just holding one of them. Nope, she needed to show each of them some love.. – Meanwhile, Max and Becky stood away at a safe distance.

The highlight of the trip for me was riding a mechanical cow… yeah. You know those cool mechanical bulls that are always depicted in a cowboy bar? Well I’ve always wanted to ride one, to really know just how difficult they are to stay on. So when I noticed that there was a kids version I had to find a way onto it. So after Emily had a short go, in which she made it look very easy – granted I was holding her, it was my turn.

Later in the month we took the kids to St Annes in Blackpool in a hopes of seeing the illuminations. We stayed the night at a hotel we’ve used previously called Inn On The Prom. We didn’t end up seeing much of the illuminations. The picture below shows you all we saw before we decided to give up and come back to the hotel as the kids were really tired. We still had a nice trip though. On that first day we played in the arcades on the pier and on our second day we went back into Blackpool and took the kids to the Sea Life Centre.

Us trying out a hurricane simulator.

The weekend after getting back from Blackpool we did our return trip to Cockfields Farm. This was all of ours first time pumpkin picking. I know it’s a pretty common activity in America but it’s not as predominate over here yet. We have a handful of farms that have started throwing this kind of event and I think it will increase in popularity each year.

*My face when having to carry anything for someone else*

It wasn’t actually that heavy by the way; Max just likes to be dramatic sometimes.. – I wonder where he got that from?

For the month of October I put up a few decorations. I have some mini pumpkin paper lights from a few years ago that I always bring out and then I got a couple of pumpkin tea light holders and these cute string of spiders all from Home Bargains.

Plant pots and stands can be quite expensive to buy, even small desk sized ones can cost you between £15 to £20. But guess where I got this planter and stand from? Primark.. and it's not a planter either, it's a candle. But for £4.50 I'm more than happy to repurpose it. 🌿💚 • #autumnaesthetic #halloween2018 #halloweenspirit #primarkhome #homebargains #postitfortheaesthetic #interiorlovers #instahome #homedecor #theeverydayproject #shelfstyling #halloweendecor #loveyourhabitat #shelfaccessories #makeitpretty #nestandthrive #pocketofmyhome #finditstyleit #homedetails #plantstand #houseplantsofinstagram #plantdecor #interiorideas #modernplanter #decorcrushing #repurposedecor #decoratingonabudget #dailydecordose #myhomevibes #ukblogger

How cool are these dog Halloween costumes from B&M, they only cost £5 as well! Oscar and Mia might not be overtly impressed with them but I was.

How was your October? What has been your favourite memory looking back on the month? And what are you looking forward to in November?

Okay that little bit you wrote about Mia on your IG is the sweetest thing I’ve ever read. ♡ Her & Oscar are so adorable, they are such models & you are the best dog mom ever!

Cockfields Farms (both times) & your trip to St Annes in Blackpool looks like a blast! You really look so happy on that bull! & hey! I totally believe all of your excuses, those things really are too slippy! Ooh! & I am in love with the coat you are wearing in the Hurricane Stimulator!

Happy November, Sarah! Hope you have another fun-filled month! ♡

🙂 I’m so grateful to have her and Oscar. And she’s come along so brilliantly with herself and her and Oscar together. And thank you – they should be dog models shouldn’t they! 😉
Lol, yes, I really was amused riding that cow *rolls eyes at my own maturity level*. The coat is from New Look, although I don’t think you guys have them in America? But it is amazing.
I hope you have a lovely November too!! 🙂

😀 Your dogs could definitely have their own IG or something, they are such models!! & I totally would’ve rode that little cow, too! It doesn’t make you less mature to have a little fun!! <3 & sadly, we don't have New Looks around here… at least none that I'm aware of!

        Thank you, Sarah!! <3

Lol, I’m glad.. they hated me enough during the photos that it’s nice to know other people get joy from looking at them 😉

She is isn’t she! 🙂 And to think my Dad called her a rat.. lovingly I think – otherwise I’d have to hurt him 😉 And thank you very much! 🙂
