Monthly Memories – December

Monthly Memories - December

WARNING: This post is going to be photo heavy and may not interest you. I’m okay with that, so no worries if you don’t want to read about my December Monthly Memories and decide to skip this post.

So to start off my December memories I’ll show a couple of photos from my room. I usually put my Christmas decorations up at the very end of November or very beginning of December as I like having them up for a full month. I also always take them down before the 6th of January, mainly because I don’t want them up for my birthday, but also because of the Epiphany. And whilst I’m not religious it’s just always something I’ve done.

You can see my full bedroom tour here.

We visited the park a few times this month, firstly because it’s become a regular when we have to take the dogs to the vets. Secondly because dogs are allowed in the cafe and they do a brilliant all day vegetarian breakfast. And thirdly to go to a Christmas Market they had on.

Also, Mia has become very obsessed with the cafe. She gets to sit on a chair and I think she’s decided she’s a lady that lunches. When it time to go she fully digs her heels in and for such a small dog, it’s difficult to move her when she’s made up her mind. She’s also dragged us there mid walk before. I think the warmth and attention she gets whilst there trumps having to go for a walk.

The vegetarian breakfast, and Mia keeping her eyes on all the food on the table.

A before and after picture of the park visit. Two tired doggies.

Early in December I went round to my sister’s house to have a Grinch Themed Evening. I shared all the recipes in a blog post here.

Part way through the evening Max asked me whether we could do a dinosaur evening next. I fear I am making them rather high maintenance. But at least they are only expecting family time and not the newest toys, so I’m okay with them being demanding in that way. It was a lovely evening and I definitely would do another themed evening.

A couple of days after our Grinch Evening we visited a local Winter Wonder Farm. The kids got to meet Santa, experience a snow storm (of bubbles) and meet a few animals. Not to mention that the Grinch was there. Although whilst they were excited to see him prior to it, they didn’t really rate actually seeing him. I suppose a human sized Grinch is a bit unnerving.

Mid December the dogs went for their Christmas groom and I popped into town with my Mum. We went to a little cafe I hadn’t been before and then met up with my eldest sister and eldest niece. I then went and got my second and third ear lobe pierced, which is why my niece came down to see us. Much to her disappointment though as she was hoping I’d do something more interesting; translation – painful.

You can find the post where I DIY this Christmas jumper here.

Look at the festive set up my groomers has! She sent me this photo wishing me a merry christmas.

My above mentioned eldest niece turned 21 on Christmas Eve, but prior to that she had a party. She asked me to make her a three-tier drip birthday cake. And not wanting to disappoint I tried my best. It was a bit wonky, and a bit squashed. But I did it. And it had chocolate shards, which whilst incredibly easy to make I’ve never done before. So that part was fun.

On Christmas Eve we went back to our new favourite park. This time with almost the entire family in tow. That meant there was 10 of us and three dogs. It was really lovely to be able to all get together as we weren’t able to all hang out on Christmas Day. I’m hoping that it will actually become a Christmas Eve tradition.

After leaving the park me and Becky, plus her babies and my fur babies went round to my dad’s for an hour or so and then headed over to my eldest sister’s to actually do Terri’s (my eldest niece) birthday cake and celebrate her 21st.. again.

The kids wrapped Mia up like that by the way. And look at my sleepy baby Oscar.

Christmas Day

Christmas Day 2018

Usually Becky will come down and open presents with us, but as she was hosting Christmas this year it was just me and my mum – and the dogs, opening presents.

Christmas Day 2018

My mum being incredibly impressed with a pill popper I got her! It’s the simple things.

Christmas Day 2018

This Christmas was the first I actually spent with my dad! Well, kinda. I imagine I spent a few with him when I was a kid but I honestly have no memories of them. And whilst we always go round to his house on Christmas Day he’s never spent the whole day with us. That’s not for a lack of us offering either! For whatever reason my dad has always turned down any offers to spend Christmas either with us or his partner and her family. Each year we go and spend about an hour at his house and then later that day I’ll deliver him his Christmas dinner and he’s always been seemingly happy with that. But each year we still put the offer out for him to join us and this year he said yes! So that alone made my Christmas.

I’m really lucky that whilst my mum and dad have been divorced basically my whole life, they are friends. So come family meals there is no awkwardness or having to separate them.

So after opening our presents at home and getting ready we went and picked up my dad then headed up to Becky’s.

Oscar set up his position at the table, jumping up onto my mums momentarily empty seat. When he got kicked off that he moved to the head of the table to ensure we didn’t forget about him.

Christmas Day 2018

Mia on the other hand took more of a sly tactic. Watching from a distance to see if anyone dropped any foods. Notice how she’s closer to the kids as she knows they’re probably her best bet for snagging fallen food. Don’t feel bad for them, they always get their own version of a Christmas dinner once all the humans have finished.

Christmas Day 2018

This year was also the first year we had a cheese board. I’ve actually never even encountered a cheese board so this was my very small-scale attempt at one. Also look at how tired Mia was after all the day’s (and previous days) activities.

Christmas Day 2018

I mentioned over on my Instagram that I didn’t end up taking all that many photos this year. As for the most part I didn’t spend any time on my phone. Which, despite the lack of photos, was lovely. The day just passed by in a whirl of being present with my loved ones.

After leaving my sisters and dropping my dad back off at home, me and my mum went round to see my eldest sister. We hung out there for a bit, playing the game Heads Up! which we’ve done every Christmas for a few years now. I really love playing games on Christmas Day and that’s one of the reliable ones that I know I can get everyone to join in on.

We then came home and all went to bed very early. All in all it was a really, really lovely day. I wish we’d spent a bit more time at my eldest sisters house (she’s called Sam by the way. I feel like most people know who Becky is by now but I usually refer to Sam as my eldest sister instead of just Sam. I’m stopping that – so learn her name 😉). Anyways, I wish we’d spent more time round at Sam’s but by that point my mum was essentially asleep on her feet. The dogs were getting irritable from needing to sleep (as they don’t nap anywhere but at home as they just aren’t comfortable enough) and I was not only very tired, but was in desperate need of taking my splint off, elevating my leg and swallowing an awful lot of morphine.

But it was a lovely day!

Instagram Highlights

@twolittletails – If you aren’t already following Oscar and Mia on Instagram, then why not? I like to think that the captions are pretty funny. Well, they amuse me anyways, which I guess is all that matters. Because if you don’t find yourself funny you’re really in trouble.

I’ve been posting more on my Instagram stories, so if you don’t follow me over there then you are missing such gems as:
