As always I was treated to many lovely presents for Christmas and then my 27th Birthday on the 6th of January. I think these posts are useful for those who never know what to ask for (a.k.a me) and for people looking for ideas to gift to others. I shared What I Got For Christmas & My Birthday last year and I enjoyed looking back at that post, so I’m doing it again.

What I Got For Christmas
I got some really great presents this Christmas. I won’t comment on all of them as some of them are pretty self explanatory, but some deserve a bit more attention and credit given to the gifter.
Music & Technology
I’ve been talking about record player more recently. I spent my childhood watching vinyls on my Dad’s VHD player (I won’t explain what these are, they weren’t even that popular in their time as DVD’s started to come on the scene. But essentially they were just records that had entire movies split over two sides).
I used to sit in his kitchen on uncomfortable dining room chairs and watch the likes of Annie, Seven Brides For Seven Brothers and Charlotte’s Web. It’s not that he didn’t have them on VHS tapes at this point (again, if you don’t know what these are.. – then get off my blog, your youth and no doubt sprightliness upsets me), I just loved watching them on vinyl. I loved having my Dad come in part way through and turn it over for the second part of the film. For that alone I have a great fondest for these retro items.
So, because I’ve been talking about that stuff and reminiscing, my Mum got me a Goodmans Record Player and it is just so pretty. She also got Queen’s Greatest Hits as I’m currently re-obsessed with Freddie Mercury. I’ve been watching multiple interviews and documentaries and I honestly feel very hard done by that I didn’t know him personally. Despite him having more of an affinity for cats, I feel we could have been the best of friends. Maybe.
Becky got me the ‘Spoiled dogs’ sign. I swear she’s getting funnier as she gets older. And more of a smart arse. I do love her dearly. 😉
And the dogs got me the cup and heat wrap. I’ve no idea how they bought me these things; it’s magic. Like Santa.
Books & Stationery
I’d asked for both poetry books as I’ve seen some of what’s in adultolescence and enjoyed it. And whilst I’m late to the party with milk and honey, I’m looking forward to flicking through it. As for Jane Eyre, my Mum found me a pretty early edition in a charity shop, which is great. I’d love to have a collection of very early edition novels that I love. I might not use them to actually read the story, but I’ll look at them admiringly as I read a paperback version off Amazon.
Again, Becky being funny. Also, this couldn’t be truer.
Clothes & Accessories
I love this scarf from New Look, which is currently on sale by the way. And notice the pattern? I’ve developed a problem.
Every handful of years my Mum will buy my sisters and me a new dressing gown. This year it was from Morrison’s Nutmeg brand, which I can’t find online to link to. But it is so soft and if you are in need of a new dressing gown and go into Morrisons it may still be in stores. It’s this amazing mauve-y pink colour that looks different depending on which way the pile is brushed.
This photo was taken the night before this post went live, as I forgot about getting this as it wasn’t in my to-be-photographed-pile. It was on me.
Beauty & Skincare
Some of the beauty items I specifically asked for are the Vitamin E skincare products (love them!). And the Tarte BB Primer which I’m planning to use as a replacement to my Sleek CC Cream which you can’t seem to buy anymore and I’m not sure why? I really hope that the Tarte BB Primer works well as a lighter version of foundation. I don’t enjoy wearing foundation but since purchasing the Sleek CC Cream I do like the extra coverage that those lighter formulations provide you. Has anyone tried the Tarte Primer and what are your thoughts?
What I Got For My Birthday
To go with my new, and did I mention beautiful, record player my Mum got me the Greatest Hits of Fleetwood Mac. I grew up listening to them along with Simply Red, Phil Colins (both with and without Genesis) and Tears For Fears. And many of their songs are still some my all time favourites.
My Mum got me this neck and shoulder massager as I suffer with quite bad upper back and shoulder pain. This is from being a passenger in a car crash a handful of years back. You should hear the noises my back makes! So I was excited to receive this and was wearing it about 5 minutes after opening it.
So that’s everything; not including some money from my Dad who never buys present.
I hope this post helped with some present ideas in the future. And I hope everyone had a great Christmas! Oh, and thank you for the birthday messages on Instagram.
