Looking back at my Monthly Memories for January I don’t feel like there is much to report. It wasn’t a bad month, I just don’t seem to have a ton of pictures or memories worth sharing on the blog.
To start this post off please enjoy this picture of Oscar not understanding the meaning of privacy. Anyone who owns a pet will likely know that you can never truly be alone. Be it on the toilet (both Oscar and Mia will stand between my legs) or in the bath having pulled the door to. I imagine he looks at the closed door, laughs to himself at my attempt for alone time and then just shoves his face in.
“Hey mum. I haven’t seen you in 2 minutes or so. Whatcha upto? Got any treats in that big bowl of water?”
On the 6th of January I turned 27! Thank you for all the birthday messages both on here and on Instagram by the way. My birthdays, for the most part, are a pretty simple affair (disregarding one year where my boyfriend at the time took us to Amsterdam for an extended weekend) but they usually just consist of seeing family and occasionally going out for a meal.
This year we headed to a local park (that if you’ve been following along with my monthly memories for a while will recognise) to have breakfast and a walk with the dogs. This year almost everyone made it, other than my dad who was on holiday and my eldest niece who was working. One of the reasons we love this park, and specifically the cafe, so much is because they are dog friendly. This means we can sit inside, have a lovely breakfast, all whilst the dogs sit at our feet (or in Mias case, on a chair like the princess she is).
Overall it was a lovely day tainted only by my ever-increasing distress at getting older and feeling I have absolutely nothing to show for it. This is something I’m trying to deal with but it really is hard when everyone around you seems to be progressing in life; both personally and professionally. Anyways, on to the pictures.
Isn’t this just sickeningly cute?
I actually managed to get a picture with all my nieces and nephews whilst we were there. Missing only my eldest niece (who was at work) and my youngest nephew (who is still growing inside my sister’s belly). #excuses!
After coming home we did a birthday cake (chocolate all the way, every single year). And then Max and Becky had to head off to a school friend’s birthday party (I guess I know where I sit on the pecking order) because he’s just oh so popular. Actually, he had been at a party before meeting us at the park too. Don’t you just hate it when a 5 year old has a more active social life than you? No, just me? Okay.
Later in the month we took a trip to a local Costa, on a very cold day, with the dogs. Because if my dogs can’t come I don’t want to either. And because we had to sit outside we came well prepared. Blankets and all.
… – I AM NORMAL DAMMIT!
She is wearing a dog snood by the way, which is a hat and scarf combo. It was cold. Don’t judge me.
That same day we went round to my dads, which we do every week for a few hours. On this day he put the newest Transformers film on for the kids. A bit of a back story: Emily has never cried or even got remotely upset at a film. Well, maybe the Grinch when he is upset as a kid. But generally speaking she’s just not that empathetic to fictional tv characters. That was until she watched the Transformer films.
She is specifically fond of Bubblebee and during that scene in the first film where he is caught she cried hysterically. I’m talking heaving sobs like her heart was broken. She continued this precedent by crying in each of the following films. So whilst she loves the films, they cause her great emotional trauma. So this was how she was watching the latest film. Hiding behind her mum, refusing to watch, but also unable to not peak. Which is how I watch horror films by the way, well I don’t hide behind my sister, I opt for a cushion, but still.
Two things; I had to blur my sister or else she wouldn’t have let me post these pictures. And my dad is redecorating hence the wall situation.
At the end of the month we finally got the snow that they had been forecasting for.. – well, months. And whilst there are many things that annoy me about snow, it sure is beautiful. Plus the dogs enjoy it, well, Oscar enjoys it. Mias affection for it fluctuates much like my own.
I have to say it, I’m sorry but I just do. My dogs are the cutest in the world. I dare you to disagree with me. 😉
One of my dislikes about snow is how it tries to turn Oscar into a snowman. I just don’t appreciate it. And this wasn’t even a specifically bad day. He’s looked much more like the abominable snowman previously. You can’t just pull these off by the way, they become well and truly glued to his fur and the only way to remove them is to melt them off with warm water.
And finally there is this picture. Which might not look that impressive or cute but if you have been around for some time you’ll know that Oscar and Mias relationship hasn’t always been great. To begin with they would growl at each other and completely avoid being in the same room. With time they were comfortable together but still with distance.
Then I started to notice how they would seek each other out. For instance, if Oscar was asleep in my mums room Mia would go in search of him to sleep too. Not near each other, but together nonetheless. So whilst I don’t think they’ll ever be the types of dogs to cuddle up tightly together, sleeping even this close melts my heart and shows just how far they’ve come. And how their relationship, whilst not #goals, is something special of its own.
Just a point to keep in mind as well; Oscar has been an only dog since he was around 1 year old. And Mia greatly dislikes most dogs after being used for breeding.
She had been asleep by the way, I just woke her by standing over them taking multiple photos, from different angles. Because I’m annoying.

Thank you! 😊💜
Lol! The photo of Oscar peeking through the door cracked me up. 😂 He looks like he is already missing you so much. They are both so adorable in their blankets, sweaters, & snoods, too. You are such a good momma! But whoa, so weird how the snow sticks onto Oscar like that?! I cannot disagree with you. Your dogs are the darn cutest!!
Happy belated birthday, Sarah!! I love me some chocolate cake, too & yours was so pretty!

He was on the other side huffing and puffing until it managed to get it open that wide. Little creeper 😂
And a (very) belated thank you! 😉😊
